A week of treats!

Dan went back to Uni last Sunday which is always very sad and which can mean I feel a bit down for a while.  So this time I decided to organise some treats to give me something to look forward to during the  week.  It is particularly lovely buying handmade things, they usually come in lovely wrapping with a note from the maker; it feels like a birthday!   So I bought some lovely cards from Vanessa at doyoumindifiknit.typepad.com  (not a great photo I'm afraid)

The are so cute and I'm sure now I'll never bring myself to give any away.Infact I'm thinking I might frame them for the wall.

I have had my eye on a block from Fee at Chippernelly.blogspot.co.uk and so it arrived this week - I haven't been able to bring myself to take off the lovely wrapping yet!!

It's really beautiful and has my boys' names on the bottom.

I also treated myself to a new book ....

.. It looks great ... taking you through lots of crochet techniques and projects to practice these so I'm sure there will be more of this later.

On the crafty front I have been getting on with my cross-stitch the subject of which can now be revealed.  This is going to be a baby sampler, baby isn't born yet so it while be a while before it is fully finished.  (I have no idea why this photo has turned itself this way!!!  It isn't like that anywhere else!

To finish another photo of my lovely rabbit from Marmaladerose in its new home.  I think this is a fantastic idea for using vintage embroidery, don't know if I would every be brave enough to try this.

So did all this lovely buying help ... well yes it did.  I had something to look forward to and enjoy rather than noticing how quiet it is.  There are lots of good things about living on your own ... not least you can buy what treats you want without any explanation .... as well as the bad!

I also ordered some wool, but this hasn't come yet ... so more on treats soon!

  1. Big hug to you, I hope Dan will be back home soon. I looked at the Rowan book in John Lewis yesterday, it's brilliant isn't it. It's next on my list to buy from Amazon xx

    1. Dan will be home for the summer at the beginning of June for 3 months ..... think I'll need to get a bigger mortgage to cover the shopping needed after that!! Enjoying the Rowan book and am going to start practising soon.

  2. Lucky you with all your treats!! I follow Vanessa's blog, isn't her work gorgeous? Your cross stitch is lovely; we have "Guess How Much I Love You" on our bookshelf and it's a favourite.

    1. Thanks Trudy. I am lucky to be able to treat myself! I suppose I should stop soon. Just the backstitch to do on the cross stitch and the baby details when he is born. New projects starting - not enough time and so many lovely things to do.

  3. Hope the house is feeling less quiet now. Retail therapy always helps a little I think!

The embroidery is lovely - that is such a great children's book. What a lovely new baby gift.

  4. You can't beat some retail therapy when you feel a bit low. The cross stitch is looking lovely, keep showing us as you do more. Time flies past so quickly, Dan will be back before you know it. Enjoy your treats. Karen x

  5. You've done a incredible job on the cross stitch! :) I've not tried cross stitch before. I love the little block you bought - what a cool idea! :)

    1. Do give it a try. I think it is the most realible form of crafting there is .... almost guaranteed to give you the best results (especially if you use aida rather than evenweave - and avoid half cross-stitches if you can). Trying cross-stitch was what got me back into knitting and learning crochet and sewing ... I started with a kit but the only difficult bit is the sheer choice!!!
